Small-scale, incremental real estate development offers an increasingly valuable alternative to more institutional approaches. “Building Small” helps create more authentic places, acts as a magnet for new investment and helps attract talent-based employment, all while fostering a more resilient local economy.

This can help communities better differentiate themselves when seeking new investment in an increasingly competitive landscape. For all its virtues, however, entrepreneurial real estate developers working to “build small” face jurisdictional and capital inertia that impedes bringing this approach to scale.

Drawing on extensive case studies, interviews with over 100 developers and first-hand knowledge gained from his own personal projects, ULI-published author and small developer Jim Heid articulates what small-scale development means, why it is essential to communities of every size and location, and how entrepreneurial developers and community leaders can help remove the obstacles to small – resulting in more successful projects and more enduring communities.

Jim will also share ideas how the concept of Building Small can inform and help drive  economic development and resilience aspects of Greater Orlando’s future growth.

Registration and networking begins at 8:30 am, and the presentation will start at 9 am. Light refreshments will be available.

Books will be available for purchase along with author signatures. Reserve your copy in advance for pick-up at the event by clicking here. The price of the book is $50, and credit cards are the accepted form of payment.

Both members & non-members are invited!
