ULI Florida: Urban Plan for Public Officials Volunteer Training
ULI Central Florida is recruiting additional Urban Plan trained volunteers. The training will held on Tuesday, March 7th from 8:30-4:30pm. Registration and breakfast will occur between 8:30-9:00a, with training beginning promptly at 9:00am. The training will be held at the Canin Associates first floor conference room at 500 Delaney Avenue, Orlando, Florida. Please plan to self-park at the onsite garage.
Registration for volunteer training is free and includes breakfast and lunch. This is a full day of training, so please plan to have your phone off during training. Those trained will be expected to participate either or both the City of Maitland UrbanPlan for Public Officials Workshop (date in May tbd) or the Florida Summit Statewide UrbanPlan for Public Officials Workshop on June 12.
The training and workshop use a RFP to redevelop the fictional Elmwood district of Yorktown using LEGO blocks and a financial model as tools. In this sample project, each person is assigned to a team and each takes on a redefined role (Site Planner, Marketing Director, Financial Analyst, Neighborhood Liaison, City Liaison). You will be preassigned a role at the start of the day; however, you will become familiar with all roles during the training.
All registered trainees will receive a link to a folder that will allow you to review the training preparation materials. The folder will contain: the UrbanPlan Handbook, Homework Exercises 1-5, and the Financial Model. Please allow about 4 hours for the advanced preparation of doing the “homework” and reviewing the handbook.
